APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Strictly follow installation procedures as defined in method statements, application manuals and working instructions which must always be adjusted to the actual site conditions.

SUBSTRATE QUALITY

  • Concrete, lime-concrete and mortar screed surfaces must be clean, free from grease, oil & loosely adhering particles.
  • New concrete should be cured for at least 28 days and should have a pull off strength ≥ 1.5 N/mm2.

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

  • Cementitious or mineral based substrates to be prepared mechanically using wire brush, grinder, abrasive blast cleaning or scarifying equipment to remove cement laitance and to achieve an open textured surface.
  • Loose friable material and weak concrete to be completely removed and surface defects such as blowholes and voids must be fully exposed.
  • Use Sikadur® or SikaLatex® or Sika MonoTop® range of repair materials for filling in potholes, voids or cracks on the substrates.
  • The cementitious substrates to be carefully assessed for moisture content, air entrapment, and surface finish prior to any primer application.

MIXING

SikaShield® Primer S-30 IN is a ready to use product. Stir the contents well before application.

IMPORTANT

No dilution is permitted as it may affect the performance of the primer.

APPLICATION

IMPORTANT

Do not dilute SikaShield® Primer S-30 IN without a written confirmation from Sika Technical Service.

IMPORTANT

SikaShield® Primer S-30 IN must be hard dry when applying any torch-on bituminous membrane.

  1. Apply bituminous primer to a clean, smooth and dry surface by brush, roller or spray in single coat as per consumption given. Ensure full wetting and coverage of the surface.
  2. In some cases, a second coat of primer may be necessary, allow 24 hours between successive coats.
  3. Application of bituminous membranes must be done soon after the primer is hard dry.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Clean all tools and application equipment with thinner immediately after use. Hardened and/or cured material can be removed mechanically or using thinner.
